Sheringham Beach and Cliff Tour

Further along the prom where the beach is quite a drop from the promenade, the sea wall is high ensuring safety for young children.

It is quite nice to walk and watch the seagulls in flight.  Some are so used to humans that they will feed from your hands. Because you are so high, they fly around so close, you can see them so clearly, which is fascinating.

Next along the prom you will come across the Fishermen's Slipway.   This is a working slipway where our fishermen still go out to sea in the old fashioned way.

Sheringham is steeped in fishing history, it began its existence as a small fishing village, with the main town being what is now known as Upper Sheringham.  It was a thriving seaport and at one time was famous for it's Whelks.

At the back of the photographs you can see the old Lifeboat shed, which still houses one of Sheringham's lifeboats, although there are plans to move it at some time to another position in Sheringham.

The fishing boats are very colourful, and so are some of the fishermen!  If you get a chance, have a chat with them, especially the older ones, they always have a few 'fish' stories to tell and can tell you about the days gone by.

As you walk further along the prom, take a look back and you can see just how high it is from the beach to the sea wall and the bridge across the fishermen's slipway.

The pebble beach consists of quite large stones, they are quite comfortable to sit on and very clean. When the tide comes in you can still sit on the pebbles and use the breakers as natural shelter from any wind or if the sun gets too hot for you to bear.

The First Aid Station and the Lifeguard Station are plain to see and opening times are clearly marked. The Lifeguard Station will give you information that you need for a safe day out on our beach, including tide times and what the different flags mean.

DO TAKE NOTICE OF THE FLAG WHICH IS FLYING.  The people who put up the flags are the ones who know if the sea is safe or not.  They are the experts and although on some days the sea may look very calm it can be very deceiving, take notice of the flag - it may save your life.
